Egypt - Dendara Temple 4.JPG
Dendara Temple honors the goddess Hathor who personified the principles of love, beauty, music, dance, motherhood and joy. Prior to excavation, sand had drifted and was about 6-8 feet from the ceiling. People had been living here, so the ceiling was completely blackened with soot from fires and oil lamps. The hieroglyphs and pictographs that you see here have NOT been restored. Only the soot was cleaned away and the original colors are still quite vivid despite being 3-4,000 years old.
